What is Prop 65?

Prop 65 (Proposition 65) is legislation enacted in the State of California that requires businesses to inform Californian residents about exposure to chemicals that may cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.

Prop 65 enables Californians to make informed decisions about the products they buy and the exposure to these chemicals.

Why is it on our tub?

We are committed to providing you with the highest quality, sustainably sourced vegan friendly protein and whey protein on the market. As peas, and other plants are grown from the soil; the soils nutrients, including naturally occurring lead are absorbed in to the pea and other plants.

As a global brand, we sell our Proteins all over the world, including in California, and it is a requirement from the State of California to inform consumers that Blessed, Oxywhey, Isopept & Oxysleep Collagen Cocoa contain naturally occurring lead.

Without this warning, we could be subject to substantive lawsuits. From independent 3rd party testing the levels of heavy metals and other minerals required to be disclosed are below the required limits - so it is risk aversion on our behalf so that we can continue to create our amazing protein and content to nourish your mind, body and spirit. We disclose it so that you are aware and able to make an informed decision.

What types of chemicals are on the Prop 65 list which are in Blessed or Whey products?

Naturally occurring low level traces of lead are found in peas - the protein source used in Blessed Plant Protein, as well as cocoa.

How could it effect me?

The purpose of Proposition 65 is to notify consumers that they are being exposed to chemicals that are known to cause cancer and/or reproductive toxicity and therefore can decide for themselves if they want use the product. A Proposition 65 warning does not necessarily mean a product is in violation of any product-safety standards or requirements; merely that there are elements in the product that may cause cancer or reproductive toxicity.

In our Blessed Protein, we only use raw sustainable plant-based ingredients. The lead that is found in our Blessed Protein is naturally occurring in the peas that we use to produce the pea protein isolate, and from the cocoa that is processed with alkali. We don’t add any nasties, including lead or other metals to our Blessed formula. In our whey proteins, from the cocoa that is processed with alkali.

Is Blessed Plant Protein harmful to my health?

No, Blessed Plant protein and our whey proteins are not harmful to your health as it does not contain lead in excess of safe threshold levels and is within regulatory thresholds.

It is required by Californian law to provide a “clear and reasonable” warning on Blessed products to notify consumers to make informed choices about what they choose to purchase.
